On September 29th, the first of the JAYWALKER books, THE TENTH CASE came out. Criminal defense attorney Harrison J. Walker, known to all as “Jaywalker,” is about to be suspended from practice for “over-reaching” for his clients (and also for being caught on a courthouse stairway surveillance camera apparently receiving a heartfelt thank-you from one of them, a young woman just acquitted of prostitution). He begs the disciplinary committee judges to let him finish up his pending cases, in which clients are relying upon him. They tell him he can keep 10 cases, but to “dispose of” them as quickly as possible. He manages to resolve 9 of them, but the last one–The Tenth Case–must go to trial. It’s a murder case, in which Samara Moss Tannenbaum, a beautiful runaway from a trailer-trash background, is accused of stabbing to death her much older and extremely wealthy husband. The evidence against her seems absolutely overwhelming, right down to the knife. Samara insists she’s innocent, but even Jaywalker has trouble believing her. Stay Tuned!

TELLER’S THE TENTH CASE WINS NERO AWARD!
On December 5th, Joseph Teller’s The Tenth Case, the first book of the Jaywalker series, was awarded the prestigious Nero Award as the Best Book of 2008! The award, presented at the annual Black Orchid Banquet in New York City by the Nero Wolfe Society, marks the second one picked up by the book, which had previously received a Daphne Award in Washington, D.C.
Both competitions were open to mysteries, thrillers, suspense novels, crime fiction and courtroom dramas–all categories that Teller’s novels qualify as. Previous honorees include Lawrence Block, Tess Gerritsen, Lee Child, Walter Mosley, former A.D.A. Linda Fairstein, former Senator Fred Harris and Dennis Lehane.
